Is PitchCraft free?

Yes. Real-time pitch detection, the piano-roll graph, vocal exercises, and recording are free with no account needed. AI stem separation (splitting a song into vocals, drums, bass, and other) is free during the current pilot for users who sign in with Google, with a daily usage limit.

What makes PitchCraft different from other vocal trainer apps?

PitchCraft runs pitch detection entirely on-device in real time — your voice never leaves your phone for the core feature. It combines a piano-roll pitch graph, reference-track singalong with A/B comparison, and AI-powered song stem separation with auto-transcribed karaoke lyrics in a single free app, with no ads.

Does PitchCraft work in a browser or do I need to install an app?

Both. PitchCraft is a web app at pitchcraft.thapps.dev that works directly in any mobile or desktop browser, and is also available as a free Android app on Google Play (search "PitchCraft - Vocal Trainer").

Can I sing along to a real song and see my pitch accuracy?

Yes — load a reference track, sing along, and PitchCraft shows an A/B comparison of your pitch against the original on the same piano-roll graph.

What is AI stem separation and how does it work in PitchCraft?

Upload a song (MP3, WAV or FLAC, up to 50 MB) and PitchCraft's AI splits it into separate stems that you can mix, mute, or solo independently — useful for practicing over an instrumental or isolating a vocal line to study. Karaoke-style lyrics are auto-transcribed and time-synced to scroll alongside the pitch graph. Stems can be downloaded as a zip and saved to an in-browser library so they reload instantly.

How many stems can PitchCraft separate a song into?

Four by default: vocals, drums, bass and everything else. You can also choose 6 stems, which additionally isolates guitar and piano — that run takes roughly twice as long. You can turn lyrics transcription off before separating to make processing much faster.

Does PitchCraft detect chords and the key of a song?

Yes, optionally. Turn on chord and key detection before separating a song and PitchCraft shows the key, the tempo in BPM, a chord ribbon above the pitch graph, and the current and next chord in the header. You can switch between simplified triads and a full vocabulary with sevenths and suspended chords. Chord names are recalculated when you transpose the song. Detection works best on songs with a clear harmony; on dense arrangements it may simplify some chords.

Can I practice singing over chord progressions or improvising?

Yes. The Sing to chords exercises play a chord progression under your voice — pop I–V–vi–IV, the '50s progression, three-chord songs, a jazz ii–V–I, a 12-bar blues and two minor progressions — on a piano with bass, in your key and tempo. Six exercises go from finding the root, third or fifth of each chord, through arpeggios, a held note over changing chords and voice leading, to landing on a target tone at each change and free improvisation.

The piano-roll graph highlights the tones of the chord that is sounding, so you can see where there is room to sing, and your voice is coloured by how it fits the harmony. The vocal report adds a harmonic-fit breakdown: how much of the time you sang chord tones, colour tones (9/11/13), scale tones or notes outside the harmony, your average tuning against the nearest chord tone, and the chord or tone that went worst. The same works on a separated song with detected chords: mute the vocal and sing your own line over the real track.

Can I transpose a song into my vocal range?

Yes. After separation you can shift the whole song up or down by semitones to fit your range; the transposed audio is pre-rendered in your browser, so playback stays in sync. Built-in exercises also let you pick a key and a vocal range (soprano, alto, tenor, bass).

Can I download an instrumental, a karaoke version, or my own mix?

Yes. “Download mix (WAV)” renders exactly what you hear — fader levels, mutes, solos, transposition and your own recorded take — into one file. Mute the vocal stem to get an instrumental or karaoke version, or keep your recording in to export a cover. The file is rendered in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How is PitchCraft different from a vocal remover or stem splitter?

Stem splitters stop at giving you the separated files. PitchCraft keeps the stems inside a practice tool: you sing over the backing track while your pitch is plotted against the original vocal, lyrics scroll in sync, chords are labelled, and you can transpose, record your own take and export the mix — with no ads and no subscription during the pilot.

Is my data private?

Yes. Real-time pitch detection never sends audio anywhere — it's fully on-device. For AI stem separation, the uploaded song is processed on PitchCraft's server and deleted immediately after; no copies are kept.
